Uganda — The Pearl of Africa

A portrait of the people, kingdoms and culture.

About Uganda

Uganda is a landlocked country in East Africa, lying astride the equator and centred on the northern shores of Lake Victoria. Famously described by Winston Churchill as the "Pearl of Africa", Uganda is home to over fifty ethnic communities, five recognised cultural kingdoms, and a rich tradition of music, dance and oral history. The Republic of Uganda gained independence from the United Kingdom on 9 October 1962.
